MBFGT Prize Winners Day at the Recording Studio
I woke up early on Sunday morning so I could get all ready to set off to Newcastle from my Gran’s house in Yorkshire. I leapt into the car and sat down with Mum. It was a long drive to Newcastle, two and a half hours! I was actually pretty bored on the way there. I fell asleep soon enough though.
When we had arrived, we were walking around looking for the studio thinking it would be a big office-like building. We were looking for “Mulberry House” because that is the name of the building the studio was in. After about 10 minutes of searching, I pointed out to Mum “Look, there it is!” but we were both slightly confused since it was a Christian Fellowship hall…?
A bright orange car parked up- it was Anna! I was so happy to see her after six months! We hugged and exchanged each others’ presents and chatted until we noticed all the doors were shut and the shutters were down on the building. Maybe this isn’t the right place, I thought. Suddenly a man with a large silver briefcase saying ‘Minto Music’ on it appeared walking towards us came, so we automatically guessed it was the man who owned the recording studio. “Hello, my name’s Gav, are you here for the recording studio then?” he asked. We replied yes.
When Gav had unlocked the building, he welcomed us to his studio. One word came out of my mouth- WOW! It was amazing! He had two Mac screens next to each other, loads of equipment like control pads and speakers and headphones and WOW! Everything I would ever dream of having. He had the same mouse and keyboard as I do, too. Anna was amazed as well!
After we had been shown the awesome rooms, we were ready to record our songs. Anna went first. She was singing Just The Way You Are by Bruno Mars. She sang it in the recording studio about four or five times. We were watching her on the CCTV screen and it was very funny, and we could hear her too through the speakers in the room we were in. “Okay you can come out now!” Gav spoke to Anna through the little microphone. She appeared from the curtains to the recording studio and grinned at me.
“Now we’re going to use this programme to take words and bits of words from your best tries that sound best.” Gav explained. There were squiggly pictures of the tunes Anna had sung on the screen. He listened to them all over and over again, dragging different bits to parts and he was even adding echoes in certain places. It was amazing!
Once he had finished, he said to me “Your turn!”. Oh no, I was nervous but excited at the same time! I gingerly stepped into the studio overwhelmed by the awesomeness of everything. Gav told me to put on the headphones, and went back into the room he was in. “Hello? Can you hear me?” he said through the microphone. “Yes,” I replied, in my microphone. Mine was really professional! It looked just like the ones you see famous singers singing into! He told me to start singing, and I heard the backing track ring in my headphones.
Song came out of my mouth and I could hear myself singing in my headphones too. I sang Life’s What You Make It by Miley Cyrus and I really enjoyed it. Gav loved the song! After I had sung it about 5 times, I was allowed to leave the studio. Although, when I had come out, Anna was fast asleep in her chair!
My Mum then took loads of pictures of us two with all the awesome equipment. It was the best day ever, and I really enjoyed myself. Afterwards, me, Anna, my brother and everyone went to a Japanese restaurant and that nicely finished the day off.
Also, some of my Blue Noses had a great day with me too!
